Frequency customizes web video

FrequencyWith more videos appearing online, new startup Frequency aims to help aggregate it for viewers across multiple platforms, including its own website, iPad and Samsung's line of smart TVs. Frequency is available on the iPad for free from Apple's App Store, Frequency's website and on Samsung's smart TVs as an app. The Los Angeles-based company, created by former iFilm executive Blair Harrison, grabs videos from social networks like Facebook and Twitter, media sites and blogs based on an individual's interests. On a single screen, Frequency creates custom channels and updates them as new videos are found. Frequency's current platform includes news, entertainment, sports and other content channels. Frequency rolled out its service at CES this week in Las Vegas, after being developed over the past two years. "Frequency brings together, in one powerful and easy-to-use experience, all the great Internet video that people want to watch," said Harrison, founder and CEO of Frequency. "For the first time, every online video a user wants to see is available in one place, and accessible on any device. ... and keeps you updated with video news, entertainment, what your friends are sharing and your interests, anytime and anywhere." Company also has a partnership with Brightcove that enables video publishers using Brightcove's Video Cloud platform to automatically publish to Frequency, transferring metadata and enabling playback across all Frequency-supported devices, including both devices that support Flash and devices that don't. Match up will eventually enable Frequency to branch out onto smartphones, Blu-ray players, videogame consoles, set-top boxes and other Internet-connected TVs. Dance Moms My God, why is this woman still yelling? After avoiding most of the entire first season - the abrasive screaming lady in the promos scared the crap out of us here at the Watercooler - we decided to peek in on the second-season premiere of Lifetime's Dance Moms last night to see what was up. Turns out, some things you just can't unsee. Seconds into the episode, it became clear that the abrasive screaming lady, Abby Lee Miller, does nothing but bellow at the top of her surely exhausted lungs. Anyone unlucky enough to enter her realm, kids, moms, probably drive-thru clerks, is subjected to her singular volume setting: Awful. Why any mother would want this woman to choreograph their daughter, much less be in the same room with them, is beyond us. This is not "tough love." It's borderline child abuse. But apparently winning Nationals (whatever they are) and creating "employable dancers" out of overworked 9-year-olds makes up for Abby Lee's wholesale lack of human kindness. So let's all bow our heads and says a quick prayer for Kendall, the newest member of the Abby Lee Dance and Future Trauma-Survivors Troupe. Because she is in for a world of woe that makes the crazypants chaos of Toddlers & Tiaras look like a tea party. As for us? Please, we're ripping up our Dance card for good. Did you watch last night?
